With the development of 3D acquisition techniques and data processing pipelines, electron crystallography has become an increasingly important tool for the structural characterization of nanocrystalline materials. The growing interest in electron crystallography highlights its potential to address challenging problems in fields such as materials science, chemistry, and biology. As demand for expertise in this area increases, there is a critical need to train the next generation of scientists in the techniques and applications of electron crystallography to fully harness its capabilities and drive future advancements.<\/p>\n

The Electron Crystallography School in J\u00fclich follows the long tradition of educational events in the field of electron crystallography in Europe, coordinated by the Special Interest Group for Electron Crystallography (SIG4) of the European Crystallographic Association. This school will continue the traditions of previous schools, featuring foundational lectures, while adding a new focus on hands-on data collection at numerous electron microscopes and introducing data collection protocols in action.<\/p>\n

The emphasis on data collection training directly at the instruments defines the explicit location of the school: at ER-C which hosts a variety of TEMs with different features, allowing to showcase nearly every scenario for 3D ED data collection. In addition to the experiments, different software tools and advanced data processing modalities will be presented.<\/p>\n

The lecturers and tutors are specialists in electron crystallography and will be available throughout the entire school to support you, including assisting in setting up your experiments in your home lab.<\/p>\n

The target audience are electron microscopists looking to expand their skillset to electron diffraction, X-ray crystallographers wishing to add an additional technique to their materials characterization repertoire, as well as physicists, chemists and biologists eager to explore this new structural characterization method. We expect participants at the level of PhD students and postdocs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
